Once an applicant is contacted by a Recruiting Analyst, they have 14 days to complete the Security Screening Application and submit all required documents through a secure online portal. Do not attempt to submit these forms and documents until they are requested from you.

Applicants with the most competitive scores on the RCMP Entrance Exam will be selected to continue in the application process.

At this stage of the process, you will be asked to submit all forms and documents within 2 working days. If you submit all completed forms and documents correctly within 2 working days, you will be fast-tracked to the next step of the process.

In order to help ensure your forms and documents are completed correctly, please note the following:

  • Incomplete or illegible forms will not be considered.
  • You must complete the forms electronically, print them and sign them.
  • Some forms require initials which can only be performed once the form has been printed.
  • You will be provided with instructions on how to submit your forms and documentation electronically. Hand delivered, mailed or emailed packages will not be accepted.
  • Retain original copies of all forms for your records. You may be asked to supply hard copies to authenticate your documentation.
  • All dates are to be entered in order of YYYY/MM/DD.
  • Incorrect or incomplete forms may cause a considerable delay in your recruiting process and may lead to your file being closed.

Most web browsers will not let you open, fill and save our PDF forms.

Mobile devices such as iPads, tablets and cell phones cannot be used to open and fill our PDF forms.

To be able to fill and save one of our PDF forms, you must first download it to your computer and open it with Adobe Reader® 10 (or a more recent version).

Required forms

Vision and hearing exams

You need to complete the following 2 examinations prior to reaching the medical stage of the application process:

  1. Vision examination
  2. Hearing examination

Please keep your completed forms until you are asked to submit them.

Note

The results of these examinations will be valid for 2 years. The costs for the vision and hearing exams are the responsibility of the applicant and will not be reimbursed.

Vision examination

The vision examination and form (Vision Examination of Applicant (RCMP 2180) [PDF - 239.74 KB]) must be completed by a Canadian optometrist/ophthalmologist. The minimum requirements are outlined below as well as on the form, in more detail.

If you have had laser surgery you must wait the following amount of time before having a vision examination completed:

  • Laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) surgery - 30 days
  • Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) surgery - 90 days
  • Implanted corrective lenses (ICL, PIOL) surgery with anterior chamber lens - 6 months
  • Implanted corrective lenses (ICL, PIOL) surgery with posterior chamber lens - 12 months
Visual acuity

You will need to meet both corrected and uncorrected vision standards. If you fail one or both, you do not meet the minimum vision requirement of regular member applicants.

Minimum vision requirements are as follows:

Corrected vision (with glasses or contacts): Visual acuity must be at least 6/6 (20/20) in one eye and 6/9 (20/30) in the other; and,

Uncorrected vision (without glasses or contacts lenses): Visual acuity must be at least 6/18 (20/60) in each eye or 6/12 (20/40) in one eye and at least 6/30 (20/100) in the other eye.

This minimum vision acuity is required for safe performance of policing duties if glasses or contacts are lost or displaced.

Field of vision

Must be at least 150 degrees continuous along the horizontal meridian and 20 degrees continuous above and below fixation with both eyes open and examined together.

Colour-vision testing

Using the standardized Ishihara pseudo-isochromatic plates, colour-vision will be considered normal if at least 17 of 21 patterns are correctly identified (pass).

If required, further evaluation will be conducted with the Farnsworth D-15 test. Applicants who pass the Farnsworth D-15 test will be assessed as meeting the minimum colour-vision standards.

Ocular disease

Applicants must be free from ocular diseases impairing visual performance. Further information may be requested at the health assessment stage.

Hearing examination

The hearing examination and form (Regular Member Applicant Hearing Examination Report (RCMP 6509) [PDF - 852.72 KB]) must be completed by a practitioner in accordance with the Canadian Standards Association Standard on Pure Tone Air Conduction Audiometers for Hearing Conservation and for Screening. You cannot use a hearing aid during the examination. The minimum requirements are outlined below as well as on the form, in more detail.

The frequencies that must be tested by an audiologist are as follows: 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz, 2,000 Hz, 3,000 Hz, 4,000 Hz, 6,000 Hz and 8,000 Hz

Minimum hearing standards for RCMP applicants
  • Hearing loss no greater than 30 decibels in the better ear in the 500 to 3000 hertz range; and
  • Hearing loss no greater than 30 decibels in the worst ear in the range of 500-2900 hertz and no more than 50 decibels in the worst ear at 3000 hertz.

Security Screening Application

You will be required to complete an online Security Screening Application, which is accessed through GCKey. GCKey is a service provided by the Government of Canada to allow you to securely conduct online business with various governmental programs and services. If selected, you will be provided instructions on how to create your GCKey and submit your personal information through the online an online Security Screening Application.

Required personal documents

Originals of the following documents will be required to be scanned. Scans of copies will not be accepted.

  • Birth certificate (front and back).
  • Canadian Citizenship or permanent resident card and Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292) (if applicable).
  • Social Insurance Number.
  • Marriage/Divorce/Separation or Name Change Certificate (if applicable).
  • 2 passport photographs.
  • Proof of education: Canadian transcripts of high school marks (must indicate graduated) or equivalency assessment.
  • Valid Canadian Driver's License (front and back).
  • Statement of Driving Record from every province or territory that you have lived in for the last 3 years.
  • Provincial Health Card.
  • A valid standard first aid certificate, including Level C CPR for infant, child and adult (must be valid for the duration of your Cadet Training Program).

Note

This certificate will be requested closer to the end of the recruiting process. You are not to submit this in your selection package. The certification needs to be valid at the time of Depot enrollment.
