Re-connect, Re-engage, Re-discover

The BC RCMP hires former RCMP police officers in good standing, and provides them opportunities to:

  • Mentor less experienced police officers
  • Be an operational resource for detachments/units
  • Assist with seasonal policing, special events, emergencies and training

Who are Reservists?

Reservists are employed with the RCMP as federal government contractors. While on duty, Reservists hold the powers and authorities of police officers, and serve operationally in uniform and plain clothes.

What do Reservists do?

BC RCMP Reservists have a wide range of knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and must maintain their fitness for duty. Reservists provide commanders with a flexible resource option in filling short-term staffing vacancies, for example:

  • Planned and predictable annual leave or other leave in Northern or isolated Detachments where the absence of even one employee can have a significant impact on service delivery;
  • Support for seasonal policing pressures such as Marine Patrol or Ski Patrol;
  • Specialized units such as Forensic Identification Section, Surveillance, Traffic Enforcement and Air Services to name a few.

Minimum requirements to join

To become a reservist, you need to:

  • be of good character
  • be a graduate from a recognized Canadian police training institution
  • have at least two years of Canadian police experience
  • have successfully completed a field-coaching program
  • have retired or resigned in good standing within the last three years
  • meet the health requirements for operational duties
  • obtain a Secret security clearance
