Break and enter investigation results in one arrested, one man outstanding

Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle on a property on Chilliwack Lake Road. A man was also seen leaving the residence and then attempting to depart the area in a vehicle. The vehicle was driven through a fence before becoming stuck in a ditch. The driver then fled on foot toward the Chilliwack River before officers could arrive. Once police were at the location, a woman was found in the back seat of the suspect vehicle, was arrested, and determined to be the registered owner of the vehicle. Investigators learned the residence had sustained damage and items were reported missing from inside. An extensive search could not locate the driver at the time, and the woman is expected to appear in court at a later date. The investigation remains ongoing.

Assault suspect arrested and later assault police

Police received a report that a staff member had been assaulted at an outreach centre near Yale Road. Officers attended and located a man who had allegedly been assaulted by a male suspect. The victim sustained injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. The suspect was located nearby and arrested for assault. He was also found to be intoxicated, contrary to a court-ordered condition prohibiting the consumption of alcohol. After being taken into police custody, the man allegedly assaulted a police officer while refusing to follow their directions. He was held for court.

Assault of police officers results in three people arrested.

Officers attempted to speak with a man who was cycling without a helmet in the downtown area. The man failed to stop and was observed riding his bicycle to a location on Williams Street. When confronted by police, he refused to respond and resisted arrest. Two associates of the man who were inside the building allegedly threw items at officers, hitting them. Additional officers attended, and all parties were arrested. The men are expected to appear in court at a later date.

Collision involving E-Scooter

A driver reported that a youth operating an e-scooter in a parking lot on Yale Road collided with their vehicle, causing damage. The rider landed on the hood of the vehicle but declined medical attention and left on the e-scooter before police arrived. The rider has not been identified.

Police continue to respond to calls involving e-scooters on an almost daily basis. They are being ridden unsafely on roadways and continue to be ridden by youth under the age of 16, which is not allowed. Everyone is reminded to know the rules surrounding e-scooters and urge riders to operate them safely and responsibly.

Impaired driving incidents

Excessive speed leads to impaired driving investigation

Police conducted a traffic stop on Prest Road after observing a vehicle travelling 102 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The driver displayed signs of impairment and had a history of impaired driving. A breath demand was made, and the driver subsequently provided breath samples that confirmed the officer's suspicion of impairment. He is expected to appear in court at a later date. The driver was issued multiple violation tickets including excessive speeding and driving contrary to driver's licence restrictions, and his vehicle was impounded.

Hit and run leads to impaired driving investigation

Police received a report of a hit-and-run collision involving a parked vehicle on Teskey Road. A witness reported that the driver appeared confused and unwell.  l. A second caller advised that the driver of the suspect vehicle was seen entering homes in the area in attempts to locate his own residence. Officers located and arrested the driver for impaired driving and confirmed his well being. Breath samples were obtained that confirmed suspicions on impairment. The man is expected to appear in court at a later date, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Single vehicle collisions lead to IRPs

BC Emergency Health Services requested police attendance after responding to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Camp River Road. The vehicle had left the roadway and come to rest in a water-filled ditch, and the driver was observed throwing an alcohol bottle from the vehicle. The Chilliwack Fire Department was required to extract the driver, who was approximately 150 feet down an embankment. Fortunately, he was not injured. Officers attended and observed signs of impairment on the driver who admitted to consuming liquor. He provided two breath samples, both resulting in "Fail" readings. A 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition was issued, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

In a similar incident, police received a report of a single-vehicle collision on Hack Brown Road after a vehicle had left the roadway and entered a ditch. Officers attended and located the driver who was exhibiting signs of impairment. They provided two breath samples, both resulting in "Fail" readings. A 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impoundment were issued.
